Sometimes, it’s simply necessary to have a special evening for two, with friends or family – or to simply indulge oneself. That’s exactly how I felt at @astrein_restaurant_cologne.
The restaurant Astrein opened its doors in the summer of 2019, and just six months later, Chef Eric Werner and his team earned their first Michelin star. This solidified Krefelder Straße as Cologne’s gourmet mile, as six houses down, you’ll find Le Moissonnier with formerly impressive two Michelin stars.
Astrein’s wine list comprises several hundred selections. The dining options include a set four or five-course menu, but what truly impressed me was the ability to individually combine dishes from both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian menus.
Each course surpassed the previous one, offering flavors and tastes that took you on delightful journeys – perhaps to the Scottish Highlands, only to be catapulted into the Mediterranean right after.
Additionally, the service deserves mention. I haven’t laughed so much in a while.
